Ox Grills FAQ’s

Design & Build

What makes Ox Grills different from other grill brands?

Each Ox Grill is built by hand in Britain using marine-grade stainless steel. We design and make everything ourselves, working closely with customers to ensure every grill performs beautifully and lasts for years. Our focus is on craftsmanship, durability, and honest materials — not mass production.

Are all Ox Grills made in Great Britain?

Yes. Every grill is designed, fabricated, and finished in Britain by our small, skilled team. We’re proud to support local craftsmanship and to keep our production close to home.

Do you deliver internationally?

Yes, we’ve sent Ox Grills to chefs, restaurants, and homes across the world — from the UK to the Middle East, USA, Europe, and beyond. We’ll happily manage international shipping and logistics for you.

Can I visit your workshop or see the grills in person?

Absolutely. We welcome visitors by appointment only to our workshop in Stratford upon Avon. You can see our process, meet the team, and get a feel for the materials and build quality. Please contact us to arrange a visit.

Design & Build

What materials do you use to build your grills?

We use 316 marine-grade stainless steel — one of the most durable and corrosion-resistant steels available. Every part is built to handle years of heat, weather, and heavy use.

Why do you use marine-grade 316 stainless steel?

Because it’s the best material for the job. It resists rust, salt, and acidic foods, making it ideal for both outdoor and professional kitchen use. Its also the best cooking surface to comply with food safety regulations. Lets face it, it is more expensive than standard steel, but it lasts so much longer.

How long will my grill last outdoors?

With basic care, your Ox Grill will last for decades. Marine-grade stainless steel doesn’t rust or degrade, even when left uncovered in the rain or near the sea.

Can I customise my grill size, features, or design?

Yes. You can adjust the size, shape, and features to suit your space and cooking style. We will guide you through the process, whether it’s a small modification or a fully bespoke build.

What is the GrillBuilder™ and how does it work?

Our GrillBuilder™ is an online tool that lets you design your own grill by selecting from proven layouts and features. Once you’ve configured your design, we’ll review it and provide a detailed quote.

Can you create something fully bespoke for my space or cooking style?

Of course. Many of our grills are fully bespoke one-off builds, made to suit specific cuisines, spaces, or creative ideas. We’ll work with you to refine every detail.

Do your grills comply with commercial kitchen standards?

Yes. Our grills are made to meet food safety regulations and commercial kitchen requirements. They’re used in professional settings worldwide.

Cooking & Performance

What type of fuel do you recommend?

We suggest using high-quality, sustainably sourced British wood or charcoal. It burns cleaner and produces better flavour.

Can I cook with both wood and charcoal?

Yes, all Ox Grills are designed to work beautifully with both wood and charcoal, giving you flexibility in flavour and heat control.

What is a Bresero?

Brasero is a traditional fire basket designed to burn logs to embers and when the embers are of a size to fall through the base of the basket the operator can pull these into the cooking area of the firebox with a suitable rake tool. Our grills come with optional Braseros, which may be situated in the centre of a double grill, at the rear of the grill, or at the side of the grill depending on customer preference.

What are the advantages of cooking over live fire?

Cooking over live fire adds extraordinary depth to the flavour to food. The heat is alive and dynamic, giving results that no gas or electric grill can match.

How do I control the cooking temperature?

Each grill features adjustable height mechanisms so you can raise or lower the grill bed over the fire, giving precise control over temperature and sear.

Do your grills work indoors as well as outdoors?

Yes, many of our grills are installed indoors in commercial kitchens and chimneys as long as proper ventilation is in place.

Are the grill beds interchangeable?

Yes. You can easily switch between different grill bed types — such as straight bars, V-grooves, or plancha plates — depending on what you’re cooking.

Maintenance & Care

How should I clean and maintain my Ox Grill?

After each use, clean grill with warm soapy water and a soft cloth.
Do not use chemical cleaners or scouring pads on the firebox exterior, uprights or stand as these are likely to scratch the stainless-steel exterior. Stainless steel cleaner or a light oil can be used occasionally to keep it looking new.

Will my grill rust if left uncovered outdoors?

No. Marine-grade 316 stainless steel is designed to resist rust, even in harsh conditions. It can live outdoors happily, uncovered.

Can I replace parts or order additional accessories later?

Yes, we offer replacement parts and accessories. Just contact us with your grill details and we’ll help you find what you need.

How do I keep my grill looking its best over time?

Regular use and occasional cleaning are all it takes. The steel naturally develops a soft patina with time — a mark of honest use, not wear.
